Kathie deNobriga

Kathie deNobriga (Director) began her theatrical career crouched behind a sofa, waving hand puppets in the air to the delight of her second-grade peers who had paid a whole nickel for the experience. Most recently, she helped craft the world premiere of Flushing: Make Room for Someone Else, a journey of legacy and transition with puppets and original music, produced by Sandglass Theatre of Putney Vermont. In between, she earned an MA in Theatre from Wake Forest University, founded the Neuse Little Theatre in Smithfield NC and served as the Adult Theatre Specialist for the Lee County Parks and Recreation Department, guiding the growth of the Footlight Players as they became the resident company for the newly re-opened Temple Theatre in 1984.

As the first artistic director of the Temple Theatre (1984-1988), Kathie directed a wide variety of plays and musicals, including Our Town, Pirates of Penzance, and The Music Man, often collaborating with the multi-talented late Marshal B. McAden. She also started “KidStuff !” for young performers and returned to the Temple in 2019 to direct Black Pearl Sings!

Moving to Atlanta in 1988 to run Alternate ROOTS, a regional service organization for creatives working at the intersection of arts and activism, Kathie traveled extensively across the US, creating a network of colleagues and launching her next career as a consultant to nonprofits. During that time, Kathie also directed for the Road Company of Johnson City TN, and Theatre Gael, 7Stages and Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta.

Kathie is currently the volunteer coordinator for Pine Lake GA’s annual LakeFest and served twelve years in city government, eight years as City Council and four as Mayor. She is busy creating a book about Alternate ROOTS, featuring the work of over 60 writers and slated for a summer 2026 release by New Village Press. She is married to poet Alice Teeter and lives in Pine Lake. Thanks to Peggy for this wonderful opportunity and to Swan King for her long friendship and hospitality.
